“I was more convinced than ever that preaching like an apostle, without joining together those that are awakened and training them up in the ways of God, is only begetting children for the murderer.”

– John Wesley

Gather & Grow

Weekly small groups of people who gather together to share openly and honestly about their struggles, victories, and spiritual condition. These groups are formatted based on the class and band meetings from the early days of the Methodist movement.

Frequently Asked Questions:

- How long is each gathering?

- Your group leader will be responsible for starting and ending the meeting each week. Each meeting will last for 1 hour unless the group decides to extend their time.

- Is this a bible study?

- No. While each gathering will have prayer and scripture included in the meeting, this is not a bible study or Sunday school format.

- Is this a support group or recovery group?

- No. The focus on accountability and vulnerability within the meeting will mirror other programs and meetings, but the primary focus for Gather & Grow is not behavior, emotional support or substance abuse. â€‹

- Who will be in my group?

- Each group will have at least one leader who will be responsible for the operations of the group. You will get the opportunity to connect and pick the group you would like to attend.

- How many people are in each group?

- No more than 8 people, including the leader(s), in each gather and grow group.

- Do I have to share sensitive details about my life with the group?

- Yes and No. You may want to share a personal detail about your life with your group but you are not required to do so. Especially if you have not yet built trust with your group members. We actually recommend that some sensitive details be omitted and shared privately with another person in the group who you trust.

- Will groups meet in person or online?

- Groups will meet online using Zoom. We are currently in talks to secure a meeting location for groups to meet in person (Arlington, TX) with a hybrid zoom option.

- Who can attend?

- Gather and Grow groups are open to anyone who is actively engaged in their local church. These groups are not a replacement for participation in corporate worship and with the body of Christ.

- What questions can I expect to be asked?

- Below is a sample of class meeting questions used in the early days of methodism.

  • Am I consciously or unconsciously creating the impression that I am better than I am?

  • Do I confidentially pass onto another what was told me in confidence?

  • Can I be trusted?
